K the Clever

Hey everyone!

The topic of changing the home page of the Wiki has been in discussion for quite a while. Many wizards have mentioned how the Wiki is a bit confusing to use, so a few of us have met to talk about how it can be made to be more wizard-friendly.

The following are changes that will be implemented:
-3 main sections: these 3 links to the main sections will be the only links appearing on the home page
-- Game Guide
-- Quests
-- Reference

Section Summary:
--- Game Guide: will have a few links moved to Reference section, but will cover the game basics, info about forums and chat, and FAQs

--- Quests: will have its own section :)

--- Reference: used to be known as Library, will cover all other information pertaining to the game.

We are hoping to finish the major updating by Feb. 28th.

Comments, questions, suggestions are all welcome! We're more than glad to hear what you guys think about the upcoming changes to the Wiki or other changes you feel need to be made.

luna the wanderer

I sticky-ed this so it doesn't get lost :)

Thank you to all who work on the Wiki! It's helpful and a great resource when answering questions :)

The change to the main Wiki page has now been made and highlighted with “Under Construction”.

From here I think we can get down to the nitty gritty part of things of what should go where on the second pages and hence forth. Again please note that the wiki is open to suggestion, comment and criticism so feedback and thoughts from others would be greatly appreciated.

My thoughts on the current Items list I feel can now be broken down more into the second page of REFERENCE to have direct links to things like : Wands, Seeds, Pots, Summons, Potions, Outfits and Items – Other (this way it is following the current set up of our bottomless satchel). Many players look at other players profiles so having these things listed in the reference section individually I think is important.

I also think keeping this second page like a ‘Table of Contents’ would be best in alphabetical order so not to favour one thing as more important over another.

What are others thoughts on this section ?

What more direct link to things would you like to see in here ?

Alatáriel the Radiant

Great idea! =) So you're probably still moving things around and all, but I feel like the second section should be titled "Quests and Badges", as they ARE on the same page. Actually... ok wait, this is really confusing. Quests and badges have separate pages, but the Special Badges are listed on both pages? Anyway, I still feel like you should have links to both for the second section and not separate the two, because they ARE pretty much tied together.

As for the alphabetizing, I don't feel like that is necessary (or would even make sense). There are only a few items to be listed, so it's not like the links will be hard to find through a hundred lines of text. Also, some things may not be more important than others, but there IS a logical progression, ie. the Player/Wizard Profile logically should be at or near the top, with Locations, Currency, and Characters following. Same thing if you're moving the "Items" to the Reference page; players are introduced to wands before potions or summons, so that should be higher up on the list. =)

Hi Alatariel,

Quests and badges do sound like a great idea - I like it and they do go hand in hand, lets see if we can get a few more ideas and some more thoughts / opinions on the idea.

On the subject of the order of reference items what order (going on current things listed and possible options) do you think they should be in ?

Bearing in mind this section is more for the advanced players use and not so much generally the newer players. (by saying that I mean all us players still often and regularly refer to seeds and leveling for instance so its more designed for that use / purpose).

Under game guide we are trying to focus its use of ease for the newer players (additionally links to any word that a link is possible along with changing the back page link pages to list all relevant pages (so any page a player could have come from, instead of the main page as it is at the moment). And if the word 'player' is used for example they can have the option to link to that page reference.

Alatáriel the Radiant

Well, for what is currently on the Reference page (minus quests and badges, and also minus the timeline - do you think it should be moved to the Game Guide, with all the other technical stuff?) I'd say:

(Basic stuff that should logically come first, because new people tend to read from top-down instead of just skipping straight to whatever they're looking for)
The Player and the Wizard Profile
Locations
Characters
Currency
Levels

(Special features that can add to the gameplay, aren't vital, but are still tied somewhat to the player's profile)
Hearts, Family & Bookmarks
Family Jewels

Items and Events (These also kind of go hand-in-hand, and "Items and Events" sounds better than "Events and Items"... I like how the Items/Events pages are organized by category; maybe we should keep them that way? It would also keep the Reference page less cluttered.)

If we keep line breaks between the three "sections" that I have above, that would also draw more attention to Items and Events, since they're on a separated line of their own - so advanced players will be able to go straight to those sections and skip over the chunkier blocks of text on top. Thoughts? =)

spot the Ingenious

Moving this to the main questions area for better visibility/feedback. Will move back in a few days.

Nicky of the Dreams Serene

I've always had difficulty remembering that Summons count as "Items" because they're not physical things like all the rest you have in your satchel (Wands, Seeds, Pots, Keys, Feathers, Potions etc.) but am struggling to make a better suggestion.
They would be an "Item" if they were eg. a potion you used to summon a creature, or some sort of single-use permit (a spell?). Perhaps they could either be described as something a bit more solid (see above) or moved out of "Items" to "Events" (on-demand, rather than spontaneous events)??
Minor update I spotted - needs to say Dragon Seeds (and possibly some other things? would need to cross-check) can now also be obtained from "Trade!".
BTW, I too really appreciate all the work that you put into the Wiki. I find it not only very useful but enjoyable too - as I progressed through the lower levels, I used to treat myself to reading the Plant Lore for all the seeds of a given type after I had earned the badge.
If I can ever do anything to help please let me know. I am a good proof-reader and cross-checker (come from a quality assurance background) and also not bad at putting things into rhyme, which would mix things up even more.

K the Clever

Nicky, actually Summons do go into your satchel, so that's why they were categorized as Items. If you actually take a look at Events, it has all the events/pop-ups that you can get from using the summons, like the Spider Beast.

As for the Dragon Seeds, it has been about a month since their release, so I'll start putting in all the spoiler stuff that was related to them. (such as items that can be obtained from the summons and the trader, which is something recently added to the game)

Mez the Half-Elven

I do not know if this is the correct place to put this, but thought that you may be able to help me, please. I keep forgetting what seeds go with what quests, ie, I keep buying shells only to find out it is spectrals I need. I have done it again, it is the Fun with Colour quest, the only badge I have not got. I swapped all my spectrals once and kept the shells and now have spent loads of gold getting shells when I did not need them. Is there somewhere that lists what seeds are needed for each quest please? If there is I have spent the last 90 minutes looking and missed it! If the quests could have the name of the seeds with it listed in our profile page that could help those of us who are shall we say a little absent minded? I think that is a polite way of saying what I really could say about myself lol. My memory is very bad, 10 year old grandson says it is because of all I have learned in my life, there is no room left for much more, he says that this is what happens to very clever people like me, bless the lad he made my day and I still chuckle every time I think of it. There must be others like me who have the odd badge or two to get and have completely forgot what they need to do, I am sure I am not the only lady of a certain age with memory problems lol. Thank you, hope someone can help me, Bless you all, Love, Hugs and Peace xxxx

K the Clever

Mez, this page in the Wiki might help: http://theenchantedisland.wikispaces.com/Quests

kayla the clumsy friend

I have a little idea, you know when you go into the seeds and then to look at each plant you have to go to a separate page.
Do u think you could just have them on the seed page because its kinda annoying having to go back and then do the same over .

Alatáriel the Radiant

Kayla, that's a good idea... but I think maybe that's set up for spoiler purposes? In case people haven't grown the plants yet and don't want to know what they look like?

Also, being kind of lazy... I understand that the sample articles under Reference Section are probably chosen for variety, but would it be possible to include items and/or events, for convenience? Maybe switch out wands or characters, since those are less frequently viewed? =P

Aggie the Moaning

Hi
Just looked into one of the quests walk-through, well, wanted to, but it asks me to sign in or create an account. What is this about then now?

K the Clever

Aggie, was the link red? If so it means the page actually hasn't been created yet. (which is why it asked to sign in or create an account)

Could you tell me which quest the walk-through was missing? We're currently trying to complete the missing pages as much as possible, but it'll help if you could tell us specifically which quest walk-through it was.

Lauren the Bold

K - correct me if I'm wrong - but I do not believe the gift shop has made it into the WIKI yet - should it be? Or wait until things settle a bit more with it?

I'm currently adding "Back tabs"/"Similar Pages" to the bottom of the pages - so if you see lots of edits by me - that's what i'm working on. Currently just adding it next to the "Go Home" tab that's already there... let me know if there's a better way to do this as well.

K the Clever

The Gift Shop is under Reference >> Locations >> Brimswood >> Gift Shop

Lauren the Bold

Ahhh - silly me K - thanks! Guess I just didn't look quite hard enough, logical, but still hidden. Perhaps we can move it back a page? Under locations instead of Brimswood - might make it slightly more easy to find.... Or add a section somewhere that explains off the tabs at the top of the page all in one place?

K the Clever

I'm not the one who originally set up the pages that way. Probably the reason for having the Brimswood page was when the Elders added the next town/area to the game.

Both Locations and Brimswood pages are missing text about what each page is about, so maybe add those in? Just a thought.

Ziba the delightful

Getting to the Dragon Summons Incineration List is a challenge. I end up just clicking on everything that says Dragon until I finally get a link at the bottom to the list of what you get when you incinerate certain plants.

Kelli the Druidess

So where do I find the link on how to get on the browser for just the island??? I use to just go to wiki and where Keith had it as "welcome to the island" I could just click that and it would take me off FB and all the adverts and just be on here....sorry but I found it a bit confusing...would be happy if you could just guide me to the link I need that so I can also inform my "family" they used the same thing as I did...

Thanks just send me a scroll I do not come here to check these forums/topics much anymore...would appreciate it as well so I can send my family a scroll to how to find it now..

Nicky of the Dreams Serene

@Ziba I've bookmarked it as a (normal) brower favourite page, for the same reason.

K the Clever

There is a search box in the Wiki in the top right corner, so searching Dragon Summons List is enough to get the page to come up as the first result.

Marina the Flying Dutchy

@Kelli, I sent you a scroll

Aggie the Moaning

Hi K
Sorry I'm responding so late. Been busy. The quest was Under the Sea, there were no red links; this is how it looks like on my screen:

Lauren the Bold

Aggie - the reason the page looks like that is that the page quite literally doesn't exist yet. no one has created it. This often happens with the new quests, it takes us WIKI editors time to gather information and create these pages. You'll need to be patient with us - especially on new quests!

The red link K referred to meant the link you clicked to get to that page. It should have been red - which means it doesn't exist yet.

Aggie the Moaning

Thank you Lauren:) It is obviously VERY difficult to stay patient while your energy fills up so slow; and no other things to do, lol. Anyway, didn't think that might be not ready yet! Silly billy:)

Cheers!

miclos the bouledor

We started a new topic yesterday about the dirty slush winter's blues..and really what triggered the whole thing is the winter image of the dream island center of the village....It is bad enough that slush and snow is bothering us in real life, could a dreamed island landscape be created to help us forget the blues of winter?

K the Clever

Miclos, the background changing is done by the Elders, not the Town Officials or regular wizards. Only time will tell when it will be changed.

Plant Statistics link was added to the Reference section. Small descriptions of the links listed on Reference page is on its way.

Lauren the Bold

K - FYI - I did update the reference page earlier - rewording a bit and moving things around. Figured you noticed, but tried to make it clearer per a few wizards confusion.

K the Clever

Under Reference Section, I did a sample of the description and what it could look like. http://theenchantedisland.wikispaces.com/Reference+Section

Your thoughts and suggestions on this change? (As of now it's only on the Badges and Quest link on the page)

Did a bit of "Shaking and moving" in the reference section - K, I continued what you started. I'm honestly not sure if it helped or made it look too crowded, change as you see fit. Anyone's opinions of the mini descriptions under the links would be a appreciated! Do you like them or not?

MAXIE the Enchanter

the quest i am on i need to make a needle or get a needle how do i do that i have grown the plant to facet it from and also grew the needle plant once does that have to br grown 3 time on the stad in order for the spider to stop stealing my silver please help maxie

K the Clever

Maxie, this isn't the thread to post that question, since this topic pertains to the changes that will be made to the Wiki pages.

Anyways, you need to grow the needle plant now. This quest involves you growing certain plants in a specific order. Every time you grow the right plant, you will get an item/and item in your satchel will change. Good luck.
