Hi everyone, it pains me to write this email, but we have a big glitch that has affected a lot of wizards. I'm sorry we have not been more communicative about this, but over the last few days we've been investigating the rash of reports that people were missing badges.

This is a definite bug and we finally discovered the root cause of this. It looks like it affected a good chunk of players (somewhere between 500 and 2000 players). The good news is that we are pretty sure we're going to be able to restore all the missing badges, but it's going to take us about a week.

[b]The one exception is the Holiday Spirit badge. If you collected all 9 ornaments and don't have the badge, you just need to cast 1 more time. You get the badge on the next cast.[/b]

First, a short explanation: there was one place in our code where, in the process of loading & then saving your game state, some people's game badges were corrupted. The badges could not be saved so the game just discarded all of them. (This should not have happened, but it did.)

Fortunately, we have backups. We are reloading up everyone's game from backup from before this problem started occurring. Then we're going to scan through the old saved game and re-award you all the missing badges.

We anticipate that this will take us about a week to fix. Our goal is going to be to try and have them all restored by next Wednesday.

We're really sorry about this! We know that you all put a lot of time into playing and building up your characters! It's very important to us to do everything we can to recover this; to bring you back to where you were before and avoid this ever happening again!

While we're working on this, we realize that re-playing quests that you have already completed isn't very fun, however you *can* continue to play if you'd like. Any gold or silver that you earn or plants that you grow, or new badges that you earn--all of this will remain. When we finally fix this all we're going to do is re-award you the old badges.

Good to hear, as it was I was stuck in the middle of a quest but couldn't buy the seeds I needed to actually complete it. Just hope it will not ruin my chance to do the sesonal stuff.

@kairae lol with the grammar nazi...I sometimes think that keith is so busy making our island amazing that he sometimes slips up...but I swear, it's not my fault! They just jump out at me, I can't help it! But so far I have refrained from mentioning them because it's just an announcement usually.

anyways, I'm glad that you guys figured out the problem finally! Even though it seems like a horribly daunting job, just remember that it could have been worse (imagine if there was something wrong with the backups!) At least it is fixable!

The island population is rising, EI was mentioned in the Chicago Tribune...and my sister finally joined last night after 4 or so months of me being afraid that if I brought her here myself she would think I was being nerdy and obsessed. So as far as I can tell, things are going great! I'm so proud to be a part of this all! :D

not sure if i'm posting in the right area, apologies if not. I just completed the holiday spirit quest and my badge hasn't come up either, nor has my tree lit up... but, i did get my last plant and the ornament from the very last seed. So i have cast one more seed, but not a seasonal sprig. So not quite sure if this is a bug, or if i need to cast one more seasonal sprig to complete?

Those of you waiting on the Holiday Spirit badge, that's the one exception--that is not actually a bug, you just have to cast 1 more time on the seasonal sprig.

thanks for the response guys :) read it just a few minutes ago and continued to cast fire seeds, next thing i kew there was a Holiday Spirit pop up from Kendral congratulating me on collecting the ornaments. And i hadn't cast any more seasonal sprigs. Just wanted to let you know for your own knowledge collecting purposes lol

I did the next cast after collecting 9 ornaments and Kendral appeared. However, she just noticed that the tree lighted up with candles.

I continue to cast 4 times more but no badge's still appeared in my profile. Is this just a delay or a bug?

I really like the ornament design, especially the Fairy, and satisfy with the warm lighting Christmas tree and white candles now, but think I waste a lot of Sprigs seeds, or gold (at least 400) for the bugs in this premium quest.

Anyway, thanks for your afford to celebrate and fix errors as well in order to bring us a happy-casting Christmas.

Ok, bug issue. I have started using bulb seeds and at first everything worked just fine, I got the badge and Pursten gave me the herbal task, but ever since yesterday I have been having problems with them. I cast and nothing happens. When I switch to another type of seeds everything works just fine. Please tell me what's going on cause I cannot complete the task with herbs.

i completed many quests, but now again i'm asked to do from the beginning.. i was in the quest after fang seeds. please help

Thank-you for the information regarding this newest bug. I hope it's not too difficult to fix. Would it be best not to pursue the quest I was before the mix up? Will the system even recognize when I have made a necessary cast? If not, I can always work on increasing my three of a kind sales.

Hi, I'm not new here, I just stopped playing for a while, and my question is, that how can I earn the family jewels, if i already should have some of them (for example I've done the basics already some month ago, when there were no family jewels at all, still I don't have the specific jewel)?

I am on the third part/level of the brimswood celebration,
and I was affected by this bug. Now I am afraid to cast because if I grow the plant I need to complete the level, I don't know if the pop-up will come up or not.

Oh good, I was afraid I would have to earn all those badges again.

PS: I was also really afraid I had to do everything all over again. The badges were part of why I wanted to stay, because I wanted to achieve them and have that happy feeling when you finally earn the badges, but when they disappeared, I was like~"AHHHHHHHH"

So, is no news bad news or good news? Still no badges. Still not able to buy fire seeds.... just round and fuzzy.

@Terri There is probably no new news as the elders are on holiday and aren't devoting much time to the island at present. As soon as they are back they will probably set to work on sorting it out.

Thank you for your work on this. I am one amongst the many with missing badges. I was using Fang seeds for the Spider Beast Tamer badge. Of course, Fang seeds are not available to me now. If it would help any, I can tell you the sequence of events that I think helped to put me to where I'm at now. But then again, it may have nothing to do with the glitch. Let me know if you want the specifics of what happened in my situation. Thanks again for your work on the glitch and getting us back to where we were!

To answer some questions:

If you look at your profile and you're missing badges then that most likely means any quest that you were in the middle of got reset back to the beginning. When we are done fixing everything will be caught up again.

This means, for example, if you were in the middle of the Fun with Colors quest, and you notice that you're missing lots of badges on your profile, then please wait to continue the Fun with Colors quest. However, if you want to start a brand new quest, such as the Seasonal Sprig / Holiday Spirit quest--then go ahead. Anything new you start will be preserved even after we are done fixing everything.

Lastly, if you are missing some family jewels because your quest badges are missing, these family jewels will be granted to you when we are done with this fix.

Dude is working hard to get this fixed, hopefully we'll be done with it within a couple days. Our goal is to have it fixed by this Wednesday.

I didnt get my fairy quest badge after completeing it ive tried everything what do i do now ...the same thing happened after the last quest i finished but someone gave me a link to recieve it and i dont remember who it was or how to find the same place again Help please

Glad you found the problem but it's wednesday mid afternoon here and still no badges/quests/seeds - - can't do anything other than use up the ones I have or buy the first 2 seeds - - can't work on new quests cause can't buy the seeds, can't finish quests I started cause can't buy seeds, can't get the new seed cause it won't recognize that I have the gloves - - Please help - haven't been able to do anything but spin wheels since Nov!!!! as I was away on holidays and when I came back the gremlin's bug had got me!!!! getting very discouraged!!!

I've just finished recovering everyone's lost badges. Please, post here if you are still missing badges. We recovered the badges from a daily backup, so it's possible you may still be missing a badge that was earned later in the day after the backup was taken. We'll do our best to fix any badges that are still missing by hand.

Please post here if you lost your badges, had them recovered, and have a problem with any quests. I think everything should be fine, but we combined any badges that you had before (from the backup) with any badges you've earned since then (for example if you replayed some quests or played some of the premium seed quests). It is unlikely, but possible, that combining the badges might confuse the game a little. If so, I'll fix any bugs you discover as quickly as possible.

Finally, we're terribly sorry about this... hopefully, everything is back to normal now! As I write this I'm going through my list of affected players and I'm giving you all a special gift. It doesn't make up for the bug, but it can't hurt. ; ))

Oh dear, seems I missed this announcement 5 days ago, because I thought the "we're fixing this" post was still the current and unresolved one!

In the meantime, I've been gradually replacing all my lost badges. And that was almost every one. Through casting I've earned them back -- all except Fairy Adventure and Brimswood Celebration, which is keeping me from getting back to where I left off before the big bug glitch: in the middle of square seed mastery. Please help.

I know they've got people on vacation and unavailable to work for other reasons. Just hope they realize this is still broken for quite a few of us :/

In the meantime like some of the others here I've started working on redoing my non-season quest badges. Mostly because I've nothing else to do in the game. :P

I am still missing all of the badges that I haven't since regained by redoing the quest or casting another seed of that type.
Before they got lost, I pretty much had every badge for every quest and every seed except for the spectral quest (I was working on the last step or one very close to the end) though I did have the spectral seed done. I didn't have any of the "special" one time badges from the contests or anything though.
Oh, I can't remember if I finished the autumn quest off hand either... though I'm sure I finished the seeds.
Please, put me back in the "buggy" pile.

Just wanted to mention that square seeds became available in my shop again! If this was a fix, thank you. If coincidence after re-completing the whole Brimswood quest, I'm just plain grateful. (Still no Fairy Adventure badge.)

So I had a trader trade me a shell seed for some spores today, so I was able to get my shell seeds mastered by myself, but I also had cast my last jeweled seeds to regain that badge and now I was given a new possibility for my magicstone other than the ones i was working on before. Am I going to have to start from scratch on that one again when the jeweled seeds are available again?

I received an owl and I have $ 10,820 silver and 40 gold but it will not let me summon it!!! Does anyone know why????

Well, I never got my badges back, but I've earned them a second time except for draft of defense.

Me too. I didn't get my badges back but I'd redone most of my quests. However I am still missing my topaz (basic wizarding) jewel, which cannot be redone. So I think I'm not in your list of affected players that you'd recovered. I didn't even know you'd fixed until I check back here again. :(

I have been pacient with the waiting for my badges to be restored because it has not hindered me that much and have re-earned some of them but now it is getting frustrating. To those that have redone their badges - The next step I have to redo is fang seeds/spider beast. **spoiler** I'm very cautious about redoing this quest as I have a good deal more silver laying around this time than when I did it originally.

Also - if anyone official wanted to respond and say they realize this is still a problem, my mind would be much more at ease.
It's been nearly two weeks since this bug was "fixed" and I notice even the first respondent to say "It's still a problem for me" still doesn't have her badges back either.

I posted a new thread in the bug forum. In the thought that they may be treating this like a locked thread despite Dude's comment to post here if you still have issues. As I said in my post there. I'm really disappointed in the handling of this.

For those of us still bugged it has been 3 weeks with this. I'm almost caught up to where I was before and I don't get to play that often. While you guys were really on top of it when it first presented, you've really dropped the ball on the rest of us.

Nearly two weeks after you request people let you know if they still have issues there hasn't been any sort of a response or even an acknowledgment of those that still have the issue, that is pretty bad customer service. Especially when you asked people to let you know if they were still bugged.

I really like this game, but the poor handling of this is taking the fun out of the game. When I get on the game I find myself angry and annoyed now instead of having fun.

I think the bug is back! I am missing badges again=(

I finished the gnomish adventure quest and don't have a badge for it...not terribly worried about it at the moment but as I am out of gold and spores, I'd like to have it taken care of. :-) Thanks!

When will I be able to purchase more fanged and nocturnal seeds? or are they done with? When I try to purchase seeds all I am offered are the ones up to the fanged seeds. I have grown some of each and would like to continue. getting a bit tired of only casting the same old ones.

i finished the spirit summoning, spirit came out and i got the 12 seeds and all but never got the badge and it still claims i havent finished the quest yet, so cant move on to the next:( i hope the bug will get fixed soon

I'm glad to hear that this bug is now being worked on. I have been very disappointed in the lack of response over this issue. It is frustrating to see that we have missed out on trying for newer badges due to this bug and that we went over two weeks without an official acknowledgment that this issue still existed.
I really don't want to rework the remaining quests. :( They were hard enough the first time.

@Dylla, when I redid my earlier badges, it did not recognize the items I already had in my satchel. I was not all the way through the spider beast quest when I stopped playing for a while and came back to all my badges being gone, but if you peek in my satchel, you will notice I have 2 pair of dragon hide gloves, since I had to redo EVERYTHING from the beginning.

I am still missing two badges. The brimswood celebration and the gnomish adventure. Are you letting us play on without the previous badge?

Hi I would just like to say THANK YOU, VERY MUCH for fixing the bug that stopped me from gaining access to my purchased wardrobe of clothing and now I can buy more cloths as well which is a great relief for my cold frozen feet. Thanks :)

Hi everyone, I'm really sorry for our lack of responsiveness on this. When Dude made the fix a couple weeks ago we were pretty sure that would fix it for everyone, and you all did the right thing by posting here. Rather than trying to fix each person individually we've been trying to figure out why some of you were missed in the auto-fix that we implemented, but alas, we've finally accepted the fact that even though our fixed worked for 95% of the people we need to fix the last 5% manually.

So, we're sorry for not keeping everyone better in the loop, but I'm going to fix up the last of you. I'm going to work my way backwards up this topic and as I get people fixed I'll keep replying here and let you know.

hi i'm missing the gnomish adventure badge in my profile... i have 54 coins and the gnomes returned, said i had badge, but no badge is in my profile.

@Dust: I just credited all those missing badges, and on the Fun with Colors quest, the next step is that you're supposed to grow an indigo flower. :)

@BettayBoop: Fixed

@Sara: I fixed all your missing badges, including taking you to the last step of Fun with Colors, however, I can't restore the magicstone badge. :( Instead, I awarded you 15 faceted seeds. I hope that is everything!

@Dust: Fixed yours, next flower you need on Fun with Colors is the indigo flower.

Keith, I am missing the Gnomish Adventure Bonus Quest Badge. I completed the quest and only get offers to play hopscotch when I cast spores, even when I cast the plants that the Gnomes needed to save their pal. So I can't replay the quest. Thanks

Well, I saw my name as being left off at and being next 4 days ago... now I see everyone you know of is fixed and I'm still missing every badge I haven't redone myself :(

I am missing every regular badge up until and including divination basics. I was also missing every gold badge up to fun with colours (was on the last collection of three), I'd cast all the autumn plants, but didn't finish the quest...

Is the Brimswood bug fixed yet?? I completed the badge, but never got credited with it. Help, please!! Thanks!

hello. i am currently attempting the square seed badge and as far as i can tell, i've met the requirements several times already. cast all five varities? am i missing something or is this part of the bug this post is about?

I was very sure I had completed the fun with colors quest as the old man came and thanked me, but the badge never came through. Are missing badges still an issue?

I am still missing badges because I was affected by the weirdo programming bug in December. (Not because I somehow didn't meet the requirements for something. I had them. They're gone.)

I posted my missing badges here two weeks ago, not too long after the post that said "If there is anyone still missing badges, please reply below to let me know!"

Since then, I've re-earned some of the badges, but I am still missing these:

I am also missing all of my badges and everything that was in my satchel, wands, dragon scales, etc. These are the badges that I know for sure I am missing: Berry Seed Mastery, Fuzzy Seed Mastery, Fire Seed Mastery, Phoenix Flower Proficiency, Dragon Hide Gloves and Draught of Defense. I was also well on my way to finishing the Fairy Adventure quest. If i could get my progress back that would be swell. Thank You.

@Liliane: I fixed yours

@Franke: After the Gnome returns from saving his friends you still have to get 50 gnomish coins, that's what completes the quest. Check the Island Wiki and you can review the dialogs from the quest, that should help.

@Dylla: I believe I fixed all yours, let me know if I missed any

@Joan: There is not a Brimswood bug that we're aware of. I see that you have the badge now. Let me know if you need further help with this.
