Dude the Programmer

Hi, this post is reminder that the people you interact with here on Enchanted Island are real people, a lot like you. It can be easy to forget this from time to time, but it's important that we treat people with respect and courtesy. That is, how we'd like to be treated by others.

This wonderful article does a far better job expressing this sentiment than I ever could. Enjoy:

Happy casting! : ))

Micca the Really Wise

Thank you, Dude, that's a really cool article, and really true. Thanks for the reminder, it's so easy to forget this when we're all online and hiding behind nicknames!

Natalia the Enlightened Minion Dragon Wrestler

Very well put, and yes, the article will hopefully be an eye-opener for some. Hopefully people will listen to this! We are as real as you who are reading this!

Thanks Dude, very much appreciated!

The Melodramatic One

I just hope that all our wizards and witches will keep in mind that, as you complaint about others, try to make your words constructive rather than hurtful. The target of those complaints (whether specifically or category general) may be reading those complaints, and find hurt in the words.

Pupcake the fluffy

Great link! I'm stealing it to send to others. :)

K the Clever

Thanks for the article Dude. Always a nice reminder of what's really behind the computer screen.

pixie the all powerful

very true! we need to treat each other with respect. we all have bad days, but that doesn't give anyone the right to lash out on someone else.

And, everyone needs to remember that kids play these games too. we adults need to remember that and watch what we say and how we treat each other. we often tell kids to treat others as we would want to be treated and we need to do the same!

thanks dude!

Meisha the Magical

I'm often shocked by the tone of some comments on here and in other apps to people who are just playing a game for fun - or, even worse, have developed it with no other desire than to entertain people. It's easy to project your bad mood at a computer screen - but not that much harder to think before you type. If I'm responding to a sensitive email or subject - I tend to hold it on my screen and read - and re read it several times before posting.

Rox the Wizard Family Baker

Thank you for pointing this out, Dude! It is really important to remember that there's real people with feelings on the other side.
And on the same opportunity I want to thank all of you, my EI friends, for being part of my life.
Hugs!

Master Meela the Meek

Meisha... I do the same as you do now.. In the past I had not had any game forum/ chat experience and I did one time word a post the wrong way. To make thing right I sent that player a personal scroll as well as posted to the thread a public apology. Now I tend to stop and re-read and re-read again.. then post.. then re-read my own post.. walk away sometimes if the subject is reaally sensitive.. then come back re-read the post and my reply again before I ever post. If I feel I cannot find a way to respond in a manner that is constructive (wont be taken in the wrong context) I will just not reply at all.

Micca the Really Wise

@ Meela, I find that you're always amazingly polite and really careful about what you write and how it "sounds". It's admirable, I wish I could do it as well as you!

Master Meela the Meek

Thank you Micca. It has taken a lot to get to where I am with my responses.. but I have to say the whole 'experience' has taught me how to speak better in public to other people as well...to stop and take the few extra seconds to really think about what I was about to say and see if I can figure out a better way of saying it. lol

Brandy the Mystical Mermaid Princess

I work with the public a lot and I find that the littlest thing can be all it takes to put a person in a bad mood and then have them take it out on you. I really enjoyed this post and the message it carries. Sometimes it's hard to remember that even when we don't think something is a big deal it can have a big effect on someone else!

Michelle the Fairy

I also really enjoyed this post and the message it carries. I think this will serve us in real world just like in here,it's a great lesson for life.

Hi Dude and everyone my golden rule in life is to talk to people and treat people the way I want to be treated. Also on the internet people can't see you they can't see your body language they can't see your cheeky grin or mischevious eyes so they don't know if you are teasing or serious so your wording has to be most careful. anyway enough from me. Thanks for the heads up Dude ~hugs~

CAROLINE the CHARMER

Totally agree...
I wish the chats were a bit more..useful sometimes it seems like people just play silly games..so I log off

Sandy the Swimmer

@ Caroline It's possible to ask a question on the chat -- there's usually someone there with an answer. But, you're right, a lot of people use chat to -- er -- chat. Play silly games or otherwise pass the time while waiting to cast or in between casts or just because they've made friends there. People use the Island Gossip (under the Hops Haven tab) the same way except that, since it's a forum, it's less immediate. The advantage is, if you're willing to wait a bit for an answer, you can make friends across time zones.
If you have a question about the game, the best thing is probably to post in the Questions, Suggestions and Feedback section of the forums. You may have to wait a bit but there's usually a helpful wizard along within a couple of hours. And, if you start a thread, you'll see when someone replies because you'll see "New Replies" blinking under the Help and Discuss tab.

mysticmeg the cookie dragon

I love the chat - one of the reason I play the game ! I do hope someone is saving post in rha' crystal tavren it is a great story - would like it in hard copy as I would a book of flowers - thank you so much for the post dude we all need to remeber it !

Astrid the Luminary

Oh my. The article actually brought tears to my eyes. Once I sent an angry e-mail to a company and got a kind reply back; I felt really bad about being so beastly and apologized sincerely, and the customer service rep replied back that it had been the last e-mail of her work day, and thanked me for making her feel much better. Ever since, I've been careful of how I treat people online, and I think a lot of people could stand to do the same. Be kind--everyone has their own issues in life, and a sincere word is much better than a harsh one. :)

Deanne the Skilled

Good afternoon everyone, totally agree with everything said.
