As you've seen, the snow has started to melt here on this island. But that's good news because it brings us some new fun. Last week, without much fan fare, we quietly welcomed a new wizard to the island, Magnolia. She's not a fan of winter so she's been waiting for the first thaw to make a real appearance. Now that she's settled herself in and become accustomed to her new life she'll be out and about more. In the Snowflake quest, a few of you may have noticed her, and now she's announcing prize petals . . .

Magnolia will be the host of a new contest on this island. She has cast an enchantment on all the island's plants so they may drop prize petals. This is a new enchantment, so it's not perfect, it won't work every time, but if you work diligently you should be able to collect a many prize petals each day.

[b]Details:[/b]

On Friday of this week all the prize petals you have will be collected for a drawing. Every wizard who has collected at least one prize petal will be included in the contest drawing for the grand prize. But unlike past contests, the more prize petals you have, the more likely you are to win! 10 lucky wizards will win the prize which includes 1000 gold plus a special prize. Details on the special prize will be shared soon.

[b]To Enter:[/b]

You must update your wizard status to include the word "prize petal" somewhere within. To do this, click your wizard on the town square to view your profile and click "edit" in your speech bubble.

[b]Tip:[/b]

If you want to maximize your chance of winning: Plants from premium seeds are more than twice as likely to drop prize petals than silver seeds. And luck potions increase your chance of gaining a prize petal. But all plants from all seeds can drop prize petals.

[b]Consolation Prize:[/b]

What if I don't win? Unlike past contests that only have 10 winners, for the first time ever we're trying an experiment. We've setup a consolation prize. If you *are not* one of the 10 winners, but you do manage to collect at least 75 prize petals by the time of the drawing then you will be guaranteed to win a small prize: you'll receive the Perfect Prize Petaler badge + 1 gold for each prize petal you have.

If you collect less than 75 prize petals, of course you still have the chance at the main drawing, but you won't receive the consolation prize.

[b]Which plants drop prize petals?[/b]

Every plant in the game has the potential to drop prize petals, there is no limit on how many times. But check the tip above for how to improve your chances.

[b]Why did one player get a prize petal sooner than I did?[/b]

You can collect prize petals from any plant in the game, but it's an infrequent occurrence, you never know when it happens. Some players might get it sooner than others but you'll get yours in due time and in the end any difference will even out. See the tip above about increasing your chances of collecting petals.

This contest got off to a rough start so I've attempted to smooth it out. It's really important to us to get things right! I apologize there have been some difficulties, but I'm going to keep at it until things are good.

I've revised some aspects of the contest rules + contest programming. The post above is all the details, here are the notable changes:

1) I clarified that 100 petals is not required to enter the contest, you only need 1 petal to have a chance of winning--more petals just gives you a greater chance (read "details" above for more)

2) We changed the consolation prize from 100 to 75 petals (read the "consolation prize" above for more)

3) Many players reported that they were receiving petals without ever getting a pop-up. I figured out what was causing this and I believe I've fixed it.

Everything else is the same. Please let me know if there are any new questions!

NOTE: Some of you may have missed out on a few petals because of all of this. If that was the case, I apologize. However, there is too much going on in the game this week for me to individually reward missing petals. Instead, that was one of the reasons for lowering the requirement. That should make up for any lost petals.

I got my first pop up just now.
I have collected 7 prize petals but this is the first time I've gotten the pop up (and I got a petal about 10-20 minutes ago with no pop up). So it appears fixed for me then, and I'm glad I have something to show me when I do get one.

thelma - you aren't alone, I have used quite a few luck potions and one time my town square froze up for 15 minutes and another I got a dud hahaha, I think they do help though sometimes.

On daily gold, please post a new bug about that, but before you do, be sure to check your gold history. You may have just missed the pop-up. (To see gold history click "get more gold" and then "common questions" and then the 3rd question).

I'm glad to hear it's working more smoothly now! It is definitely better when you actually see the pop-up. :)

I'll keep an eye on this topic a little while longer before I go to bed, but I hope the contest troubles are behind us.

I also just saw Magnolia for the first time (a picture of her) she came with my daily gold window and it was like the first "instruction" of the event so maybe everything has reset. Makes more sense now and is something to follow.

Plus I also got a little note to say the petals were added to my satchel from her and they were. Should make it much more fun now.

I have been playing with different seeds for a bit now, and have a few observations. I currently have 11 casts that I can accumulate and usually wait for them all so I can get a true sense of the seed/petal ratio. For me, personally, I have not really noticed a huge distinction between premium seeds and silver seeds. I find that I am averaging about 2-4 petals per 11 casts. Once with purely silver seeds I was able to get 4 petals so I think they have done this pretty fair. I AM using luck potions, about 2 per 11 casts. I have 19 petals now, hopefully I can get to 100 by Friday. That was a question I had....is the deadline extended at all due to the temporary stoppage? Thanks!
PS...Still have yet to see Magnolia though. I do get the pop ups, but I would have loved to have met her!!

I still have not recieved any petals, and have had no pop ups either... I know this is just a game, but with any game you want what you are supposed to have to get there,I am very new to this game and have noticed alot of changes just since i have been on. I realize that yall have alot to deal with so i do not want to be pain in the butt so to speak. I just want to know if maybe I am doing something wrong or what the deal is.. thank you for your time.

@Ginger: The deadline is not extended, but you don't need 100 petals You only need 1 (see my notes above). Also, the consolation prize now only requires 75, in part because of the issues.

@ Sunshinejo - I just peeked into your satchel. You have 6 prize petals in your satchel! Take a look. So you are collecting them, just the pop-ups for them don't seem to work for you.

In your status to enter, do you have to have the words "prize petal" (singular) or can you have "prize petals" (plural) as well?

@Ilyssa - the important thing is that "prize petal" is part of your status. Keith will do a search for this 'string' (as a specific sequence of letters is called in the computer language) So it does not matter at all what you put around it. You can say "superduperprize petals" or anything else als long as "prize petal" is part of it or you can only put "prize petal" in your status message.

By the way, copy & paste is a good method to do so - otherwise chances are there that one might misspell the words ... it happened to me and it would be still there if not a friendly wizard would have sent me a scroll :)

Sorry ... I had understood it as meaning PRIZE PETAL had to be just those 2 words on their own, with nothing attached to them, but they could have any other SEPARATE words either side of them
