@saffron-Considering how involved the elders are in the game, your response is a bit surprising. I spend time playing other apps, and I've never seen any other in which the developers have such a personal hand in the game. They not only develop the game, but spend a lot of time making changes fairly quickly, and add in suggestions by players. In all the other games I play, I think I've seen one time where those devs have actually answered something on their forums, let alone take care of issues as quickly as is the norm here.

We all have real life to deal with. They deserve a break every now and then. I'm saying this not as a town official, but as a player.

Hope all is well with them! I look forward to their return! It gave me a chance to level up again and gain some more gold, so that's always a bonus ;)
And even if it's nothing that urgent...seriously...they deserve a break just like everyone else does ;) Give them some slack! It's a game ;)
This is seriously my favorite app on FB and it's the hard work they put into it to make it so...so even if they want a day off just for the HECK of it, leave it be ;)

I'm quite happy to wait for Keith to sort his problems out ...I only hope they are not too serious. It won't kill us to wait for the new quest, and we can either concentrate on levelling up and earning more gold or we can go away and concentrate on our own real lives for a few days (sorry kids I can't cook your tea I need to do my casts is frequently heard in my house lol)

@spot: I agree with you, these guys are really involved in the application and trying to make things better all the time. They do deserve some time off from time to time (dont we all?), and even though many of us have completed all the quests and have nothing much to do, I still enjoy casting the same seeds again and again, wont hurt to do it for a bit longer.

@ saffron: I must agree with what Spot has stated.

We all have moments in our lives that seem to go soo smoothly.. everything falling in place at exactly the right time. Then things all of sudden for months on end seem to just not go right at all. It wasn't to long ago there was a family issue that these guys had... they ended up needing to spend time at the hospital. This very well could be the case again... and only those closest to them know the entire story as to what is going on.

These guys lead full lives as we do... jobs outside of home (and this game).. families.. etc.. and the rest of time they are working on this game and trying to get advertisers to help pay for what we are playing for free. Writing code and getting with the artist and making those calls are very time consuming. They HAVE to not only take time for themselves but time for their families as well.


@Keith and Dude... I hope things are not serious for you two. You guys work hard for this game and I am certain the majority of us appreciate all your hard work and time you put into this.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering what was going on. I've been on this island for 7 months and can only remember two delays - this one and the one due to family issues.

I do remember e-mailing Keith about a problem I had with the game and was pleasantly surprised of his and Dude's prompt response to fixing the problem. I think they working very hard on this game and keeping in touch with the players. If they are away from the island for a few days, well no biggie - it's just a game.

Appreciate the update.... and hope the okes are fine! As you can understand it is just highly frustrating as a player. Why don't they bring in help? I, myself, have been contributing towards the site by buying gold... Lots of times. I don't know what to cast anymore... Please open up one of the other quests again then.

WOW,|I want to go to work for you guys, your so forgiving, I've never had a boss who was so understanding. So what, they work hard, I think EVERYBODY does. As for this being a free game, I suspose it is, BUT, it is designed so that they can make money from it, they aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. This is their BUSINESS--Its how they make money. I'm not the one who sets up unattainable goals for them, they came on here and announced when the quest would come out, then pushed it out and then suddenly as we wait patiently they have something (again) that is out of their control. I'm just saying that this is not the first time this has happened.

I, like you, hope that there is nothing tragic happening in their lives, I would never wish anything bad on them or anyone else.

Just maybe in the future, they should not make announcements that they cannot keep. I would not be dissapointed if they wouldn't have given it to me to look forward to.

I don't feel like I should be beaten up in this mannor for an opinion I have every right to have. I may have been the only one who voiced my dissappointment but from other post previous in other threads I am sure I am not the only one who feels dissappointed. I didn't make any promises that I could not keep.

Maybe you should put a disclaimer here somewhere that says you only want to know what people think if it is positive and makes you feel good.

A delay just means we'll have more time to accumulate gold- and waiting for a new quest means more delicious anticipation! I support the Elders in taking all the time they need to live their private lives. @Saffron: Are you a programmer? Do you know how much time and work goes into planning, programming, beta testing, bug fixing? If you don't know how much painstaking work goes into making a game like this run as smoothly as EI does, then you really do not belong here. There are thousands of players here that appreciate every cast, every quest, every bug fix, that are supportive of the game and the developers. If you don't want to play nice, why play?

Rather than complain, maybe you should leave. No one is making you play, for free or otherwise. No one is requiring you to spend money on this game, or waste your time here. So if you're not happy, rather than complain about something you don't know anything about, get out instead. =)

Patience is a virtue. This is a free game as are all the games in FB, and I have never seen so many people so impatient in my life. It's like being in a room full of second graders that want it and they want it NOW. Grow up , God forbid something would happen in your real life situation and you couldn't fulfill your obligations at work or in your business. Give Keith and Dude a break already.

@Maxi...Why not cast fire seeds, to get embers...to get dragon seeds...this will pass the time, get you some summons and level you up while waiting.

Or, do the indulge the old man quest...I'm doing both and it is quite lucrative :)

Saffron, This is not their business, it is their hobby - that has been said many times in other posts. As far as how much they care, I have never been in a FB game where the developers actually come into the chat room to ask people their opinions on how things are going and if there are things that need to be fixed.

You said you wouldn't have been disappointed if they hadn't stated when it would be ready... if they had just said "We are working on a new quest and will let you know when it's ready" I suspect you would be one of the people constantly posting questions about "is it ready yet?" You're audacity is really amazing!!

As for your remark about a disclaimer, they don't need something like that because they want to hear about complaints people have about the game however, yours was a personal blow when you don't even know what their extenuating circumstance is.

I agree that everyone has a right to voice their own opinion I just think you voiced it incorrectly. Remember when a person reads things on the internet it's not like someone speaking to you where you can see facial expressions and body language, you should have simply said that you were very disappointed that it wasn't ready yet.

To add to Lydia's suggestions, you can always re-do Day of the Triffids, too, or grow a few Puffapods to get **spoiler**.
I have been spending the time getting silver, getting & using dragon seeds (as per the approach above), catching up on what's been happening in the discussion threads and - best of all - making new EI friends! I now have a lovely, big wizard family to follow the progress of, exchange gifts with and, hopefully, help in future.(See stickey-ed Add Me thread at the start of Island Gossip).

Hope nothing serious is going on! I am just casting Fanged seeds and trying to level up again.

For those upset that they made a "promise" but didn't keep it, how many times have we read where people are upset that a new gold quest came out without any prior notice? Seems they can't win for losing. I am just glad I have time to level up again and accumulate more gold. :) I love this game, and delays or not, it is one of my favorites!

I am amazed at a few of the negative posts here that are very non-supportive. People need to take into consideration the complex issues of game designing and things that come up. To be so impatient and complain about a few delays on a "free" game, to me, is amazing.

I, like others, have used this opportunity to "manufacture" a few needed items that have allowed me to level up quicker, therefore, have adequate gold for the new quest when it does come out.

Personally, I feel that maybe some ppl take the gaming to far. After all, if a quest is not here and you are disappointed, there are other things in life to do. :)

I myself am happy with the delay..There are many things that can be done while we wait..leveling up, building up my stash of Green Dragons, Unicorn summons etc..with a bit of ingenuity and strategizing one is never bored on EI!!

I too am anxiously awaiting the new quest.. when it arrives I will be ready for it!!

I do hope all is well with the Elders. They have always been there whenever we needed them so we should all be understanding and support them now whatever the reason for their absence!!

It's ok to be frustrated and voice it.Patience is a virtue not many people possess,I wish I was more patient myself.I'm also frustrated not because of the delay but because my other half keeps sabotaging the game by buying ugly pots,drinking transform potions and wasting summons and faceted seeds I was saving :-)

But it's just a game at the end of the day so I try to take it easy :-)

They cant win - get complaints about bringing out a couple of new things at the same time - and same when there is a delay .... they do this out of the goodness of their hearts and are very helpful !

I also was worried when the quest didn't come out that I was missing something (small panic at the back of brain all day) but I do understand that everything does not always run as planned. Even though the quest did not comeout when announced I am glad they announced it! It gives us time to save up and plan how we are spending. It has been harder int he past with no announcment to suddenly need gold! Hope everything is going well...now waiting patiently for the new quest and trying to level up again. 334 casts to go! I was disappointed by the delay too. But the game has outright stated it's in beta. Delays and problems happen, and they did make it very clear it's beta. I was just pleased we were informed about the delay. I don't really mind delays so much as I mind when there is no information about what is going on. And I feel that a reasonable job was done in keeping the players informed.

So not fair, lucky you Sid - I have actually been trying to do that but have failed so far. Good job!! If you have any hints such as time of day or how long you were an unintentional boy - I would love to hear it, please scroll me!

@Amanda the strange--it is not hard to find Keith's last name even without the Tribune article. You can read all about him and even watch the TED talk that he did. He is quite an up-and-coming kind of guy!

I've been thinking about this, and I think I am pleased for the delay. Think of the options.

They can choose to not let us know what is coming and just release things as they are ready. Then they never disappoint people by being late, but many people were upset about not knowing that a one-time only badge option was going to happen. It seems that people really don't like not having a heads up.

They can finish things, tell us they will be coming, and then deliberately delay releasing them. This isn't all bad, but it does mean artificially imposed wait times.

They can give a heads up with no timeline information, which I personally think would be rather annoying, but some people might like that best.

Or they can do what they have done. Give a heads up with their best estimate and then inform us if they run into problems. Which, given the other options, I think it's my preference.

I'm not sure if anyone can come up with a realistic alternative I haven't listed. Saying never have problems that cause delays is not a realistic option. Although it is possible people would like the option of never getting timeline info; it's really a matter of personal taste.

It is obvious the rest of humankind can't be as perfect as you claim to be. I myself have made the odd promise (or two) that I couldn't keep. The fact that you NEVER have amazes me. Apparently, you are not all perfection if you do not possess patience. Also, you fail to realize that, business, or hobby, this is a game in cyberspace. While you wait, perhaps you can go out there and live real life?

I don't want to be rude to anyone in any forum, but I found your comment rude, offensive, and childish. I just had to respond. Life is not perfect--not everything can be made according to time schedule--in fact, hardly anything is.

Just to add an opinion:
I dont really care if this is a hobby or a full time job for the developers. I dont care how much money they make from this game (I do hope they make some, I think they deserve it). What I do care is that I have a passive game, which adjusts perfectly to my computer times, which is by the way a really nice and challenging game, that helps me (for a few moments at the time) leave the real world and get some new refreshed energies to go on, and if all that wasnt enough I also get to meet some amazing people and all that is for free!
Then if I have to cast more fire seeds for a while, or do the "day of the triffids" for the 20th time, or just cast any seed in different pots to see what it looks like and at the same time level up... why not? after all, this is a game!

@ saffron: I understand that you can get upset at times for not getting what you were promised on time, I would in real life if Im expecting to get something really important, but try to keep in mind that this is not real life, but real life is what happens outside the game (and there you do have situations that can change your plans). Sorry you have to work with people that doesnt understand human needs, hope that changes for you.

One of my first childhood memories is one of dissappointment. I still remember it like it was yesterday even though it was over 50 years ago. To look back now it wasn't important really but it shaped me and how I dealt with promises to others.

I was 4 and the neighbor boy got a new swimming pool, one of those plastic ones that you blow up, it was the prettiest things we had ever seen. We lived in Texas where it was HOT in the summer. My little sister ane I watched as his mother blew and filled it up with great excitement. When it was ready we asked if we could come swim with him, his mother told us "Not today, you don't have your swimsuits on, have your suits on tomorrow and you can come swim with him." So, of course the next day we got up all excited and got our swimsuits on ready to enjoy that little pool. Sure enough, his mother came out at about the same time that day and filled his pool while we watched with anticipation. Then she brought her little boy out and he played in the pool. She never glanced in our direction. It was as if we did not exist. We were forbidden to ask again, we were instructed that we must wait for an invitation. The invitation never came. I can still remember standing there in our little red and white stripped suits with the poka-dotted ruffle on the butt, our fat little fingers gripping the chain link fince that seperated us from the neighobr, being treated like we were invisable. I was hurt. I said to myself then and there that I would not treat people like that, If I told them I would do something, I would do it. Later that afternoon my mother finally gave into our plea to get wet and sprinkled us with the hose which caused a BIG fight between her and my dad that night because she was waseting water. So, needless to say, we never got to play under the hose again either. For some reason that day is still brutally clear in my memory and whenever I am disappointed I become that little girl standing at that chain link fence all over again.

Saturday morning, after waiting weeks for a new quest, casting patiently, storing up gold. BOOM, no new quest. Little girl standing at the chain link fence, again.

AS for getting a life, I would LOVE to. Last week, out of the blue, my girlfriend called and asked if I would like to come over Sunday and hang out. Being as I am currently unemployeed and have very little money to do anything, this sounded great to me, a day out of the house, to be around other people, if only for a few hours. WOOHOO, I had been looking forward to it all week. I got up early this morning and bathed, washed my hair, basically made myself presentable to go out in the world if only for a while. She said she would call, so like the good little girl I was brought up to be I patiently waited for her call. Finally about 4:00pm, she called, and dang it, she has a terrible headach. Why, I asked. Because her ex-husband is engaged. The one she left because he cheated on her. She has moved on, gotten married again, but she is still in love with him and his engagement is really tearing her up. So maybe we can get together next week for dinner. Call me cynical, but I won't be holding my breath waiting for that dinner.

I am open to getting a life as you say, but, unfortunately that includes other poeple who have problems and lives of their own. I have lost most of the friends I have made in life through divorce (awkward) or death and have become somewhat of a hermit. Getting a new life is not as easy as it sounds. Until the economy changes and I find a job, the internet is my life. I depend on it to keep from losing my mind and to keep some kind of contact with the outside world.

I am not perfect. I am human. But you can ask anyone I know, if I tell someone I am going to do something, I do my best to do it. If they really want or need something I am the one they have always come to because they know I will carry through.

My neighbor came over about an hour after my girlfriend canceled today. She wanted me to repair her favorite blouse. She thinks I like to sew since I have my sewing machine out and I made a quilt for my daughter for Christmas because I couldn't afford to buy her anything. I HATE to sew for other people, but I need all the friends I can get at this point so i told her I would repair it and it is now ready for her when I see her out and about tomorrow, I will get it back to her. I didn't want to do it, but I told her I would, so I did. I am at least putting forth an effort to stay connected with other human beings.

I agree with all of you, this stupid little game that I LOVE, is far to important to me at this time in my life and I would love to have a job to go to, people to be around, places to go. But that is not happening right now and I try to stay optimistic that things will change soon. I can only hope and be ready for it when and if it does.

I apologize to all of you. I truly wish I had kept my big mouth shut. I am truly sorry I shared my feeling with you, and that it upset you all so much. Be assured, I will not do it again.

Saffron, the problem was not that she didn't keep her word but that she was horribly rude and snubbed you, and I am sorry someone did that to you. It wasn't that she didn't keep her word, but that she outright lied to you.

If you feel all promises need to be kept, then you are a fool if you ever make a promise. No human being can guarantee the future. And you should not read anything as a promise. The developers did not give a solemn oath that the quest would be ready by Friday.

No, instead you should read all promise-like things as statements along these lines: My current intention is for this to happen and I will make a good faith effort for it to be this way, but should various sorts of factors come up that make this unrealistic then it may not happen.

That is always true. You can't do better than that, unless you carefully word all your promises to have clauses like "assuming I do not suddenly die or am severely injured or have health problems that cause me to outright forget that I promised this" etc.

The thing is, there's a huge difference between "We're going to release this on Friday" and "We're going to tell you you can have something cool and then never ever let you have it ever and rudely ignore you and be total jerks about it." Your example is the latter. This is different. This is a delay. The quest will come. You will get to play with the tiger seeds, almost definitely. No guarantees, because the world could end or the internet could be destroyed or the developers could die or all sorts of things could happen.

I admire and respect the desire to keep one's word. But to hold people to promises to the detriment of people's well being is a poor move. Often the most mature thing one can do is to break one's word. Because so often one's word was based on a future that did not go as one expected, and it is so hard to understand and predict all the things that can happen. For example, if I told a friend I'd be by next Wednesday to see a movie with them and then someone else died and I had to go to the funeral it would be vastly horrible for me to skip the funeral because I had told someone else I'd be there. But I don't put the clause that I will break my plans if something horrible like a funeral comes up every time I tell someone I'll be there, because I assume people I know are sensible enough to take that as a given. No promise should be taken literally and absolutely. The universe has such a wonderful way of throwing something you could never predict at you to make you realize how badly worded your so carefully thought out promises may be.

Anyhow, good luck with finding a job. I hope things improve for you. And I hope the quest comes out soon and you have lots of fun.

I think most of us have lived situations of dissapointment and many of us still feel like the little girl at the fence at times. Many of us have been dissapointed by the people we trusted more than anyone in the world, but we certainly cant allow to get stuck in that moment, we have to move on and accept that those moments are also part of life.
Internet is a wonderful thing, and it does allow you to participate in activities that you wouldnt have in real life. I do understand how much you love this game because I love it too, but there's other games that you can play, forums you can visit.... there's so much to do when you have a computer that can help you feel more "in touch" with other people and less dissapointed because of a quest.

@Saffron, I understand you're disappointed and you may always express your dissappointment ofcourse, but it's still the tone that makes the music. You told your story, which made your reaction understandable. You taught us not to judge too fast about people. But isn't that the same thing you were doing? You don't know the situation Keith and Dude are in, so it's impossible for you to say if the delay could have been prevented or not. You can't control life, because there is sickness, death and so many other things that can be out of one's hand. So my point is, don't judge people as you don't want people to judge you.

After re-reading my post, I think that still sounds a bit harsh, I just tried to tone it down a bit.

I am really happy, that I have a chance to level up once more. Maybe now I will be able to take part in the quest.
To Keith and Dude: take all the time you need for whatever you have to do. There are more important things in life (although I too love this game a lot, an maybe even too much..)
Whatever is the reason for the delay: my thoughts are with you!

Only just got back to this ... maybe we were a bit hard on Saffron - obviously has good reason to feel bitter - but I also agree that no one knows Keith and Dude's situation too ... so we all have to try and understand that everyone has circumstances etc beyond their control - life is cruel is it not ?

I am completely baffled by the past posts that I have read. We have alot of anger and aggravation going on. Then add to that the anger and aggravation of people responding. This is supposed to be a fun game, a "Break" from our everyday lives. The elders and creators of this game have not made any promises to us, therefore there is nothing to break. They also have a life going on outside of the island, if at times they must step away and deal with real life than that is completely understandable. We should all do that. You want this quest so bad, I wonder when you finish it, will you than be the one complaining that there is again nothing to do but cast random seeds? I am sorry that you feel like this game is your link to the outside world, but might I make a suggestion? I know that times are hard and jobs are hard to come by right now. Alot of us are in the same boat. But instead of devoting your time to this game to the extent that you do, could you not devote it to something more worthwhile? There are many organizations that are in desperate need of volunteers and you would get actual outside world contact. You may not get paid monetarily but the reward would be even greater to all. : O In light of the new quest delay do you know if it is possible that they might think to extend/reopen the time for the special plantimals badge? Without the prizes of course. I only ask because a friend asked me to help them cast and I mistakenly got rid of their lettuce fish and they probably would have gotten the badge in time had it not been for that...

Agree Nina - about the anger and aggravation etc ... but this game isnt entirely the only link to the outside world ... and someone said earlier I think that maybe people are getting frustrated simply because it is such an enjoyable game - a compliment in a way I suppose.
As for going out volunteering to do things ... maybe some people are not in a position to do that either, maybe through having young children for example.
It is turning into something rather heated, all this - not nice and there are a lot of strong feelings / bitterness even.
Personally its not a problem for me waiting .... there have been long gaps for me in between quests, as I have done everything there is to do ... so I find something else to do while waiting ... just come on daily to check the free gifts, look on here for new messages and any news from the elders etc.
What a silly situation we have ended up with. :-(

Poor Keith and Dude ... coming back to all this - doesnt seem right .... not fair when you think of all the hard work they put into this.

What a pity some of this discussion has got a bit heavy ! It is after all only a game ( but a very addictive and absorbing one !). There are many huge upsets and disappointments for all of us in life, but I don't think this delay counts as one of them ! Hope all is well with Keith and Dude; looking forward to starting the next quest, but just working towards levelling up in the meantime.

I saw a few posting about having issue's with gifting...I do think its Facebook...I use Firefox and have NEVER had an issue with gifting and still don't I have gifted everyday since it started(gifting)in fact I have never had a problem with Firefox on this app period! Sometimes with FB one app you go to you can bring up friends list and send invites and then turn around and go to another and it doesn't work...this has been going on for ages with FB it is unfortunate but it has been happening a lot with them especially within the last two weeks...due to all the new changes with FB!

As long as it brings people together and keeps them busy it's not a bad thing I suppose.I just find it interesting how little things can bring up a lot of strong emotions.when everybody's too nice,something is not quite right and than things just boil over and have to come out and it's a healthy thing as long as it's not destructive.

As for myself,I'm happy with the outcome.I've made some new friends and expanded my wizard family as a result of this :-)

Hi all! I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind thoughts. I was just on vacation last week, and now I'm feeling re-energized. Keith had the flu, but sounded much improved when I talked to him today. We're pretty much back at full strength now! : ))
